I feel violated!
In a way, that IS the last show, but I am working on a brand new show. The four shows become too much for me to keep up properly and having four so-so shows wasn’t acceptable to me anymore. I plan on coming back soon with a brand new show with a relatively new format and I will take all of the feedback to heart in the final stages of the planning. There will be more variety and hopefully I can come in for a checkup in a few months. I am planning on a release of the new site within the next month. I have a few things to get together yet.
I usually don’t make fun of corporate radio but after months of not listening to it I found that “take a hit” phrase rather funny and wanted to make fun of the DJ. The point being to have fun.
The TalkShoe stuff was for additional promotion and getting my show out there. I was hoping to eventually bring in live “callers” for some sort of thing. Of course with not much of a listener base it is hard to get something really going. I don’t know if I will do that or not with the new show.
I have continued New Music Today which I try to put out most weekdays. I play one new song every day (usually brand new to the PMN).

Hey Mike and Steve,
Wow what an episode!!!
I have definitly gleened a lot out of that rant that Steve had. Since I was already rethinking my format, I am definitely taking what was said here and applying it to the show.
Thanks Guys!

No… great feedback. Will be taking some of the suggestions on to the new show. After I get it recorded, would you mind taking a listen to see what else I could improve on the quality front?

I enjoyed your ‘pulling back the curtains’ behind how to do a good podcast. I’ve been a big fan of S. Eley’s EscapePod.org. I agree wholeheartedly with Steve’s statement that a podcaster should insert some small aspect/comment concerning the podcaster’s personal life. Such talk gives the listeners some idea that there is a real human being giving depth and time to the show — time that the podcaster could be spending with his family.
Steve strikes a very nice balance between commenting on the actual podcast, and talking about his life. I think that the ratio is something like 1 minute of personal life to about 10 minutes of commentary re: EscapePod.org (by my guesstimate). Lately, Steve has been inserting the voice of his wife and of one of his kid(s). In each case, the voices had a nice direct tie into the show (once his wife narrated or did character voices).
In addition, Steve also strikes a good balance between time spent on the ‘lead in’ to a Sci-fi story, and the ‘wrap-up’ to the story. Again, I estimate his ‘talk time’ is about 1 to 8 as compared to the actual story (this includes the background music too).
Very sound advice.
