Podholes #20: 8-Track Balls

Very sorry for the late posting on this one, folks. We actually recorded it on time, but Steve screwed up on getting it posted.
- Steve splurges on the Shure Beta 58 instead of the SM58. Conclusion: It is a sexy beast.
- Proximity Effect: usually not your friend. Don’t get too close.
- How do you plug a lapel mic into the Zoom H4? You need this adapter or this one.
- Question from Tim Sullivan: “What are your rigs?” (Heh, heh. Guess what we spend the rest of our time talking about?)
- Question from William Morton: “Should I record in wave format or MP3 format?”
- Aside: How long should one keep the wave files and project files around?
- Question from Jonathan Walz: “Monitor on headphones from the mixer or the computer?”
P.A.P. Smear #9: We’ll be critiquing Episode 6 of The Myth Show. Listen to the episode, then hear us talk about it next week…

I’m looking forward to the P.A.P Smear. Thanks for choosing my show. I have recently purchased a ZOOM H4, primarily on your suggestions and look forward to using it in future shows, though it wasn’t used in the show to be reviewed.
There is a special post on my blog/podcast page welcoming anyone interested. (Automatically linked in the previous comment.)
Thanks Again, Greg

One thing that I would like the comment on and it isn’t the show it is the website (and maybe I shoudln’t comment if I haven’t got my own house in order). However, on a couple of PAP Smears you have commented on Podcasters websites and that they should get them sorted out. One observation, maybe you should fix the couple of niggly things on yrou site too. If you are going to give advice, then maybe you should follow your own?
Not to be negative, because I love the show, just an observation.
Regards,
Paul

Thanks, guys, for the lowdown on your rigs. Very useful information for neophytes like me. Of all the podcasts about podcasting out there, this is becoming my favorite. I do like podcast411 a great deal, but I’m finding your hands on approach and advice to be more practical and useful. Have you listened to some of the other PAPs out there? I’d be interested in some of your thoughts on those.
Thanks again!

Don’t know why but iTunes is delivering some other strange program but NOT your Track Ball Ep. I see another guy left the same message. Went to the site to listen.
Just finished gathering up my PodKit. Thank you guys for all the advice. I’m using a Alesis MultiMix 8USB Mixer with USB (picked because of price) recording to a Zoom 2,(price again) and Mennenga will love this, an RCA Type 77-DX ribbon Mic. I do have a AKG C414B ULS as a back up mic. I’m an OLD broadcaster and had them sitting on a shelf. You have the BEST show. Thanks.
Jim.
